Sailing Team Pre-Season Meeting

Sailors and Parents,

On Tuesday, Feb 19th, we will have our High School Sailing Pre-Season meeting, 6pm @ The Bellingham Yacht Club in the downstairs room.  This meeting is for both parents and students who plan to be on the team or are interested in learning more about it.  The team is open to all high schoolers in Whatcom County. 8th graders are also welcome if you have racing experience.  We have many important topics to cover at the meeting including practice and regatta schedules, expectations, and required paperwork. It will also be a good meeting to attend for new sailors interested in joining the team, so encourage anyone who might be interested to come.

NEW CHANGES:
  • All teams will practice together on the bay this spring and operate out of Zuanich Park Dock.
  • We are adding a Varsity Team practice on Wednesdays 3:45 to 6:30.  Cost for this team will be an additional $100.  You will be notified soon if you are invited to be on the initial varsity team.
  • We will be incorporating "try outs" this season.  See attached try out expectations.  New sailors with no sailing experience are still welcome and will be evaluated more on personal attributes such as attitude.  Contact me if you have any questions.  Try outs will happen the first week of practice.
  • We will be having the swim test at Arne Hanna at 7pm on Feb 21st.  This is mandatory for everyone to attend.
Practice and Regatta schedule for the season are posted on the website: http://www.whatcomsailing.com/schedule.html

February 19 - Pre-Season Meeting at 6:00pm at BYC
February 21 - Concussion Baseline Test at Sehome after school for new sailors
February 21 - Mandatory Swim Test at Arne Hanna at 7:00pm

FORMS / WAIVERS
Attached are the forms and waivers that NEW sailors need to fill out.  If you were on the team in the fall you do not need to fill these out, but you do need to confirm you are cleared with your AD secretary. New sailors, please complete these forms and bring to the meeting along with team dues which are $250 for JV and $350 for Varsity. Make check payable to Whatcom Community Sailing.   If you have been invited to the Varsity team please bring a check for $100.

All high school (not 8th gradesailors must do the required sports clearance with your school.  This is an online process now at your schools website.  Here are links to each schools athletic registration process:

A sports physical is also required, so get that scheduled ASAP.

A concussion baseline test is required for everyone.  If you have not completed a baseline test in the last couple years there will be an opportunity on Thursday Feb 21 after school at Sehome. Please add this to your calendar.

All this paperwork is required before you can practice. For a list of everything that is required see the Join Page of our website.

We will go over all this in more detail at the meeting, but feel free to contact me if you have questions!
