Fall Champs Recap and Trick-or-Treat this Weekend!

Hi team,

Fall Champs
Thank you to all parents and sailors for your efforts this weekend! With cold conditions and high winds, this was a classic Fall Champs in Oak Harbor.

Thank you to Lorena and Jayna for organizing food, tents, and propane fire pit, the Neuman's for towing the 3-boat trailer, and the Vondrells for bringing the second (much-appreciated) fire pit!! Thank you also to all of the families who volunteered to drive carpools: Neuman, Norwood, Meyers, Mora, Meyer, Vondrell, Wilcox, Baldwin, and Morse families!

Finally, thank you of course to all of the sailors, who pushed through postponements and capsizes to achieve some great finishes this weekend! We have seen huge growth from the beginning of the season, and had some great competitive moments.

Congrats to the Bellingham varsity team, who qualified for NWISA fleet race districts (basically sailing version of "state"; it's the nationals qualifier) in May by getting 8th place in Gold fleet. There will be at least one more chance for Sehom and Squalicum to qualify before the end of the spring season.

Trick-or-Treat Team Race This Weekend, Nov. 1-2
As we mentioned at practice and the regatta, next weekend's "Trick-or-Treat" regatta will not be a district-wide event but instead will be a scrimmage held at home.

Schedule is Saturday 12pm-5pm and Sunday 10am-3pm, and will have both time on shore and on the water. The exact schedule will be dependent on the weather day-of.
Goals will be to talk through, learn, and practice team racing, a tactical style of racing that is new to a lot of our team. We understand this is a bit of late notice/ change from the original plan of an away event. If any sailors have changes to their availability for this weekend, please update the regatta signup spreadsheet before the start of practice on Thursday.

Photo Op: Bring your Pinnies this weekend!
We also want to take advantage of a home event and get team photos with everyone in their pinnies before the season ends!! Please make sure to bring any pinnies you may have to this upcoming weekend. Cooper and I have most of them and will be re-handing them out for photos.

Let us know if you have any questions. Thank you all again for a successful Fall Champs regatta!

Best,
Anna and Cooper

Cost- $15 for regatta registration + $10 for group food + $5-10 for carpool gas money = $30

Waiver- Fall Champs/ RR1 Waiver Must be filled out before regatta

Saturday Morning Game Plan (Map Below) -

Oak Harbor is a great venue, but has a lot of walking back and forth. To be efficient and save our energy for sailing, we will stick with this plan:

9:00AM Meet and start unloading the trailers.
Once boats are unloaded from the trailer and masts are stepped, A fleet sailors get changed, while B fleet sailors are rigging the boats
A fleet sailors need to be changed and ready to go before the team meeting.
10:10AM Team meeting near the boat ramp
10:30AM Competitors meeting boat ramp
Once the competitors meeting is over and A fleet is launching, B fleet sailors can change (at least into base layers), then walk down to the spectator dock. They should help move all the gear bags for A fleet as well.
We have a lot to do between 9:00AM and 10:10AM- sailors will not have time to walk down to the spectator dock and back before our team meeting.

Wind Policy -
The maximum wind for high school sailing events is 25knts. Each fleet (Gold, Silver, and Gallium/Bronze) can be called off  in less wind depending on the skill set of the group.
The expectation is that all teams show up and unload/prep boats no matter what, and then safety decisions are made day-of with the wind speed at the time. Occasionally, they will send teams home early if the weather is unsailable and remains so for multiple hours.

We are looking forward to a great event to end our competitive season!

Please let us know if you have any questions.

Best,
Cooper and Anna

Whatcom Sailing Regatta Updates

Hi Everyone,

Regatta signups for Ranking Regatta #1 (Oct 25-26) will be locked tomorrow at noon. Please go review and update any of the information. We will be sending out logistics tomorrow evening. This is a Gold and Silver regatta, and we will be sending everyone.

Trick or Treat Team Race (Nov 1-2) will be hosted here in Bellingham. We will be sending out more information soon, but for now plan on a home event. It is highly likely that it will just be our program, and maybe a handful of sailors from other north sound programs. This will also be our first Team Racing event!

Looking at the forecasts, wetsuits are most likely going to be required at future practices and regattas. We have wetsuits available that sailors can borrow for the season, but we need to know ahead of time; wetsuits are size dependent and cannot be borrowed day-of or day-to-day.

Thank you,
Cooper

Team Gear, Inclement Weather Plan, and Cascadia Cup!

Hi all,

A couple of updates as we get further into our season:

Inclement Weather Plan
Our inclement weather plan is to meet in the basement of the Bellingham Yacht Club, the same location as the info meeting: 2625 S Harbor Loop Dr, Bellingham WA 98225. It is about a 10 minute walk from our normal sailing location at Zuanich Park. If the weather or forecast requires it, we send out day-of practice location reminders on Remind.

Remind App
If you did not get our Remind message about indoor practice on Tuesday, please make sure you can in the future! Remind is how we send SMS messages to the team in case of sudden change of plans (like Tuesday's practice). You can join our Remind by texting "@sailboats" to the phone number 81010. The Remind app is not required to get messages. If you cannot join the Remind for some reason, please let us know ASAP so we can troubleshoot or make a game plan.

Team Gear
If you ordered team gear (hats, tees, hoodies), please pay parent Jayna Neuman (cc'd) who organized the team gear and stickers. She accepts PayPal (@jaynaneuman), Venmo(@jayna-williams-neuman) & cash app ($jaynaneuman).

Cascadia Cup Oct. 11-12:
If you haven't yet, please make sure to fill out the regatta signups as "yes" or "no" for next weekend. Cooper and I will be sending out a logistics email tomorrow based on who is signed up as "yes".

Please let us know if you have any questions!

Have a great weekend and we look forward to seeing you all next week.

Best,
Anna
