Fleet Race Champs

This weekend is our final regatta of the season and it is fleet race district championships in Seattle.  The team going is Robyn, Elsa, Miles, Elise, Jack for Sehome and Riley, Zoe, Clara R., and Clara E for Bellingham.  Entry fee will be $15.  We will be leaving Saturday morning from Sehome Haggens at 7am.  Staying the night Saturday and returning in the evening Sunday.  Please remember that racing will be continuous this weekend with no break in racing.  Last year this came as a surprise to the team and they became very exhausted half way through the first day.  Use this week to recover from any illnesses and get lots of sleep.

See you at practice tomorrow!

2nd Place!!

Great job to EVERYONE this weekend, you all did a great job!  2nd place for the Sehome varsity team!  That's really good and you should all be proud of yourselves.  The JV teams also did great, and I want to thank you guys especially for being so independent while Mallory and I were running around putting out fires.  It was nice to be able to focus on the other things and know you guys could handle your own racing.

Parents: WOW, so much thanks for the great food this weekend.  All the coaches were really impressed.  Especially thanks to Jo Kaas for all your work in planning.  My favorite part was obviously the candy bowl!  Also thanks to those parents who helped on race committee, loaned boats, or housed kids.  Hope all the kids were well behaved at your houses.  If anything was left behind let me know and we can get it back to them next weekend.

Sailors: Thank you to those of you who stayed and helped load boats.  We are missing one Bellingham HS pinnie, so please bring to practice Tuesday.

Great job everyone,

Scott

I have an enormous frying pan. If someone has a webber grill it fills the
top with just enough space for air. We no longer have a webber but if
someone will bring one I'll bring the big pan.

Re: Team Race Details-Parent Planning

Dear Sailing Families-
We hit the ground running tomorrow morning.  Here is a quick update on the parent end of regatta planning.
I'll start out with a request.  We are serving pancakes Sunday morning and yet, we have no griddles.  If you have a cast iron griddle (or any griddle that can be placed on a propane grill) and would be willing to loan it out, you will be knighted and granted an audience with the queen.  Please tag your griddle with your name and phone number.  The queen is getting on and doesn't remember as much as she used to.
Saturday will be a grab and go breakfast.  We will be cooking oatmeal and brewing coffee but, otherwise, its just setting out easy to manage snacks: Baker's Breakfast Cookies, hard boiled eggs, yogurt, bananas, satsumas, beverages.  We will also start prep for the Pasta Bar Lunch.  The volunteers for the morning are: Christine Griffin, Amy Kashiwa, Andrea Hood, George Kaas, and Jo Kaas.
The afternoon and evening will be busy.  We serve pasta with two sauces, Caesar Salad, rolls, apples, cookies and dessert bars, and beverages.  We will also prep for the Grilled Hamburger Dinner.  Lots of slicing.  We will serve Burgers and fixings, baked beans, potato salad, greek salad, melon, fruit cobbler, ice cream, and beverages.  Volunteers for the afternoon are:  Tracie Johannessen, Angie Chambers, Jo Kaas, George Kaas, and some "floaters"--you know who you are.☺
I have another engagement this afternoon and evening  and will not be available after 2:00pm today. If you would like to volunteer to help or to donate, please feel free to e-mail me.  I will check my mailbox this evening, but may not have the opportunity to respond.  Thank you all.  --jo

Weekend Regatta

Dear Sailing Families-
We are nearing our big regatta weekend. Many thanks to all of you who have volunteered to bake, shop, boil, haul, cook, and serve.  Attached please find the sign-up roster and a volunteer schedule.  Please take a moment and check my work and notify me of any corrections or additions.
We now have all the cobblers we need, again many thanks.  If any of you find you have some spare time Sunday morning, I would like to have couple of extra volunteers.  We will not only be serving breakfast, we will also be preparing lunch.   Additionally, I may be looking for some refrigerator/freezer space for perishable foods and frozen meats (burgers and sausages).  I will have a better idea about food storage needs after the initial shopping tomorrow (Wednesday).
Thank you all for pitching in.  See you on Saturday!  --jo

Team Race This Weekend

Sailors and Parents,

Just a reminder that we are having our regatta planning meeting tonight after practice at Lakewood at 6:30pm.  Please come if you can.

The whole team is signed up to sail this weekend, so I don't need to type out everyone's name.

We still need housing for a couple more smaller teams or individuals coming up, let me know if you have any room for even one person.

Thanks,

Scott Wilson

Team Race Districts

Dear Sailing Families-
Next weekend April 28th and 29th, we will be hosting Team Race Districts.  Here is a quick update on the planning and on what is still needed.  Many families have already donated time and supplies. Many, many thanks to you.  If you have not yet done so and would like to, this would be a spectacular time to make the leap.☺  We are counting on 180 guests. I have attached a volunteer/donation spread sheet for your reading pleasure. Here's the lay of the land:

Saturday Breakfast:  Grab-n-Go (sorta).  Oatmeal and toppings, Baker's Breakfast Cookies (minis), apples, hard boiled eggs, juice drink, coffee, tea, cream, sugar.
Saturday Lunch:  Pasta Bar, garlic bread/rolls, salad, tossed or sliced fruit, lemonade, coffee/tea/etc., cookies and no nut dessert bars (brownies, Rice Krispie Treats, lemon bars, etc.).
Saturday Dinner:  Burgers/Veggie Burgers with fixings, baked beans, potato salad, sliced melon, lemonade, fruit cobbler, ice cream, coffee/tea/etc.

Sunday Breakfast:  Pancakes with syrup, warm applesauce, sausages, hard boiled eggs, coffee/tea/etc.
Sunday Lunch:  Bagels with cream cheese, turkey, and cucumbers; apples or carrot sticks; chips; fun-size candy, lemonade, coffee/tea/etc.

Weekend Snacks:  Will be a combo of left overs, and . . . ?  Muffins, Pretzels, cheese sticks?   Whatever the budget allows or families donate. Think grab-n-go.

   What We Need:
 **1-2 cobblers(Saturday)
 **dessert bars-no nuts please(Saturday)
**1 large spigot cold beverage server/jug
**1-2 pop up shelters (Saturday and Sunday)
 **2-4 helpers (10am Saturday/lunch and  3pm Saturday/dinner and clean up)
 **1-2 helpers (10am Sunday/lunch and clean up)
**One brave pasta pre-cooker.  Let's be clear, you're cooking pasta to serve 180 people then transporting it to Lakewood      Saturday morning.  Whoever you are, I love you already.
**spare platters or serving utensils you would be willing to donate for continued use by the sailing team.

Some reminders:  If you loan equipment or dishes from home, please label clearly with your name and phone number to insure these things find their way back to you.  And finally, you probably haven't heard the last of me yet.  My condolences. ☺ Thank you for everything.  --jo kaas (Ben's mom)

Team Race Planning Meeting

Sailors, Parents, Race Committee,

I would like to have a quick meeting next Tuesday April 24th at 6:30pm, right after practice at Lakewood.  It would be great if everyone could attend, especially if you are on race committee or helping with food.  I am not expecting those race committee volunteers from Seattle to come up for this meeting.

Again, we could still use more help with race committee and support boats.  Please let me know if you can help or know someone who could.

Thanks,

Drivers Needed, Housing Needed

For this weekend I could still use another couple drivers.  We need 6 more seats at this time.  Any parents willing to drive over to Port Townsend on Saturday?

Also, for the team race regatta the following weekend I still need a couple of houses for visiting teams.  I have heard from the Chambers, Johannessens, Johnsons, and Hoods, but I need two more.  If you have a floor or basement that a team could sleep on please let me know.  You don't need to provide much more than floor space.

Thanks,

Just a reminder we are meeting at the Sehome Haggens at 6:30.  Bring your $30 entry fee, sleeping bag, pad, pillow, all your sailing gear, and life jackets.  Space in the vehicles will be very limited, so only bring what you need.  Also attached is this weekends waiver.  If you could have your parents sign this and bring it tomorrow morning that would help a lot.

Thanks,

Regatta Weekend

Dear Sailing Families-
Team Race Districts is only two weeks out.We are tentatively expecting 200-250 guests.  It's time to get cooking! First, let me thank you so much for anything and everything you are able to contribute to this event.  Here is what I have so far.

Saturday Breakfast will be grab-n-go: Bakers Mini-Breakfast Cookies, Apples, Coffee/Tea/Cream & Sugar. I would also like to serve breakfast sausages.
WE NEED:  A chaffing dish for the sausages, two volunteers (to heat sausages, make coffee, set up breakfast, and prep for lunch).

Saturday Lunch will be a Pasta Bar: Pasta, Red Sauce, White Sauce, Rolls or Garlic Bread, Caesar Salad, Fruit, fun-size candy, water and soda.
WE NEED:  chaffing dish for pasta, two crock pots for sauces, three to four parents to manage cooking and serving and to prep for dinner.  If you are a Costco member and would be willing to shop for this meal or other supplemental supplies, please contact me again to confirm.  I know a couple of parents already made this generous offer.

Saturday Dinner will be Grilled Burgers, baked beans, fruit salad, water and soda, cobbler and ice cream.
WE NEED:  Two Gas Grills, four parents to grill, prep, serve and clean up.  A Sudden Valley parent with a large freezer to store the ice cream until late afternoon.
**FRUIT COBBLER TO SERVE 200**  I am asking that this portion of the menu be provided by parent donation.  If you are unable to volunteer for the event, but would like to contribute, consider baking up a cobbler (or two☺) for the Saturday meal. Please e-mail me your name, the number of servings you will be providing, and your plan for delivering the dish to the regatta.  I'm guessing we will need between 12 and 16 cobblers depending on pan size. Please respond asap to allow time for an alternative should we fall short on cobblers.  Many, many thanks.

Sunday Breakfast will be pancakes, syrup, warm applesauce, sausage (yes, again), coffee/tea/cream & sugar.
WE NEED:  very little ☺   Diane Rehberger and Heather Elsworth have volunteered to flip and flap the jacks so . . . another parent or two to manage the sausage and applesauce, set up breakfast, and prep for lunch.

Sunday Lunch boasts three options:  Potato Bar, Taco Bar, or Cream Cheese/Turkey Bagel Sandwich.  It all depends on parent volunteers.  Let me know your preference and how you can contribute to prep.  Many thanks!
WE NEED:  200 pre-baked potatoes and/or pounds and pounds of pre-cooked ground beef for either of the "Bar" options. We will also need parents to prep, serve, and clean up.

There are many details missing from this first effort, but this will start us on our way. Please don't hesitate to contact me by e-mail  (gkaas@comcast.net) or phone (734-7353/h).  Thank you.  --jo kaas
