Team Gear Order

Good morning parents and sailors,

Team gear is here! Or at least, the order form is. Thank you to Jayna, (cc'd) one of the Squalicum team parents, for putting this together.

Kudos also to Sehome senior Bella and Squalicum '25 graduate August for making the designs that inspired the team gear order.

We have 3 items available:
1. Hats (Baseball cap style) - $18 each
2. Long sleeve tech tees (perfect for layering and wearing on the water!)  - $22 each
3. Hoodie Sweatshirts - $40 each

Attached is the mockups of the team gear which has images of all three items. Sailors can order one item, or get all three for $80 total! Family members, friends, and other team supporters are also welcome to purchase gear- just add additional purchases at the bottom of the order form.

The order form is linked here: https://forms.gle/GoXhwfEucfgFrnL37

We hope to submit these orders BY END OF PRACTICE ON TUESDAY, 9/23 so that the sailors can wear the gear for Cascadia Cup, the away regatta in Seattle, on Oct. 11-12.

Please let us know if you have any questions!

Best,
Anna

First Sail Recap, Captain Elections, and more!

Hi Everyone,

Great to see you all at our first on-the-water practice! The conditions were beautiful. There are a couple of things that I wanted to share / remind everyone of:

1. The Regatta Signup Sheet should be filled out with your tentative plan by Thursday's practice.

2. On Thursday, we will be holding Captain elections for each school that has more than 4 sailors. A PDF of the Captain Agreement, which elected captains must sign, is attached below. Please let us know if you are running for captain by responding to this email. We will split up into each school, candidates will give a quick speech, then we will vote.

3. We will be doing an optional 1 hr work party before Thursday's practice, starting at 2:45PM. Thursday is an early release day for Bellingham Public Schools. This work party is not required, but I will be bringing a variety of snacks and treats for anyone who comes. We will be doing some housekeeping tasks like moving the bunks, sewing battens in sails, scrubbing the boats with soap, etc. Things that need to happen, but would be great to do outside of a practice. We will send out a Remind message on Thursday morning.

4. Sailors should complete our Goals & Pairs form so coaches can help make pairs of who will sail together. Due before next Tuesday's practice.

5. Thank you everyone who has filled out both the Whatcom Sailing and FinalForms registration! Now, our last registration is to that of the high school sailing governing body, North West Interscholastic Sailing Association (NWISA). https://forms.gle/VQuUpB7FovNU4j1U8. Sailors must submit this before competing to prove they attend their registered high school. It is a simple form- a screenshot of your classes or grades including BOTH your name and the school's name or logo is enough. Running start students should submit proof of registration at their normal high school, even if they are taking classes off of the high school campus. Please complete it by this Thursday!

Please let us know if you have any questions.

Best,

Anna & Cooper

Whatcom Sailing Regatta Signups

Hi Everyone,

Our regatta sign-up sheet is now live, please take a moment to fill it out. A tentative yes or no for each regatta is due by practice on the 11th. We'll also review each regatta in more detail during our first practice.

If you're planning to attend the WINB Regatta, please let us know as soon as possible since it's coming up quickly.

About a week and a half before each regatta, we'll lock the sheet and begin planning logistics. You'll receive a 24-hour notice before the sheet closes in case you need to update your information. After that, we'll send out the logistics sheet, which will include who's going, who's driving, the schedule, and other key details.

I'm excited for our first practice tomorrow!

Let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks,

Cooper

Whatcom Sailing - Swim Test Tonight, First Practice, and Registration!

Squalicum High School
via FinalForms

Hi Everyone,

This email is going out to everyone who is on Final Forms. If you are no longer interested in sailing this fall, let us know and we will remove you from our email list and Final Forms roster.

9/2 (Tonight!) and 9/3 we are doing our swim test at Arne Hanna Aquatic Center (1114 Potter St, Bellingham, WA 98229). The pool has asked us to be ready to swim at 7:15pm so please come a little early to get changed. One of us will be just inside the front door- sailors should all check in with the coach before entering the locker rooms. Sailors only need to attend one of the days, not both. If you cannot make it to either night, you are still required to complete a swim test in Bellingham Bay.

Our first practice is 9/4, 3:45pm at the BYC Basement. Please use the side door on the east side of the building. We will be spending half of practice inside going over our code of conduct, team expectations, and getting to know each other. The second half will be at the dock getting our boats ready for the season. We will not be going out on the water during the first practice, but we will be outside so bring clothes for the weather.

Please register on Whatcom Sailing if you have not already. It is required before the first practice. We will have a "tryout" period for the first 3 practices for sailors to get an understanding of the team and how we operate. After the tryout period, which ends Sep. 12th, sailors will get refunded if they choose not to be on the team or are cut. We will only be cutting sailors if we are over 36 sailors. Right now we are at 26 sailors.

Please let us know if you have any questions!

Best,
Cooper and Anna

Thank you,
Anna Morrow
